HEADS UP FROM REGATTA WATERS RESIDENT

Have received this from a resident in Regatta Waters - as follows:

"Just to let you know about a couple of incidents that happened over the weekend.  On Sunday night we were home when we caught a glimpse of a couple of people out on the street.  When we looked more closely, though, there was a young girl looking in at us through the living room window, standing in the flower bed.  By the time I got there she and her friend were walking up our neighbour's driveway, then looked in through the front door that has glass panels.  I turned on all the front lights and they took off up Essen Place towards Ontario.  They seemed to be about thirteen or fourteen years old and dressed in shorts and T-shirts.  One, I think, had white shorts and a red T-shirt.

I phoned the police who sent a patrol around, but we'd had a very similar incident on Friday night, too.  Two young fellows, maybe sixteen or eighteen, were walking up every driveway in Essen Place and looking in through the front doors.  We were coming home from dinner, thought they were looking very suspicious, and followed them, but we lost them in Leander Circuit. I'd never seen either set of young people in the neighbourhood before.

I hope this might help some of our neighbours to be a bit more aware of strangers in the neighbourhood. It'd be great if you can pass this on."

HEADS UPS X 2

 A. E. writes: "Hey all, I live in studio village. at approximately 930 pm (11.5.13) while i was at work, my girl friend was home alone when a grey sedan pulled up at the front, and a man approached the house with his head down really low. he walked up to the front then briefly around the side of the house before taking off. we believe he was scoping the house out to break in. he had a black hoodie on, jeans, and was wearing a snap back hat. fairly young, 170-180 cm Caucasian appearance. The car went passed the house once slowly before pulling up indirectly. i had a friend come pick up my girl friend and shes safe and everything is fine. im assuming ours wasnt the only house scoped out. just thought id throw this out there in case it helps anyone else."

T. G. writes : "Caught someone last night (10.5.13) checking cars, called the police and they were here within 15min. I got HER on CCTV so the police were driving the streets looking for her. I waited up all night to see if someone was gunna come back to the cars, I was  ready for them!!! The young female looked between 17-19 wearing black & white striped tights and a lite grey or white hooded jumper. My CCTV shows her just casually walking up to cars and trying the doors to see if they unlocked!"

ANZAC DAY

This Thursday is ANZAC Day and is a time to stop and remember the men and women who have served our nations both as defenders and peacekeepers.

On the 25th of April 1915, thousands of Australian and New Zealander soldiers went ashore at Gallipoli and through their bravery and resilience; the legend of the ANZAC soldier was born.

On ANZAC Day there will be a number of services held in our area.  The dawn service is traditionally held to represent the landing time on Gallipoli to take advantage of the half-light and difficulty in clear sight.  The citizen’s parade allows returned service-people to march and local members of the community to join them in remembrance for those who didn't return to their home land.

Our troops still serve in active war-zones, and we should remember Oxenford resident, Trooper David Pearce who was killed on duty in Afghanistan in 2007.

Our ‘local’ Dawn Service will be held at the Maudsland CWA hall on Maudsland Road this Thursday.  Residents should gather at 5:15am as the service commences at 5:30am.  A ‘gun-fire’ breakfast will be served in the CWA hall afterwards.  A Dawn Service will also be held at the Helensvale Bowls Club, commencing at 5:25am.  A ‘gun-fire’ breakfast will be held at the bowls club afterwards.

Our ‘local’ Citizens Parade and Service will be held at the cenotaph on Tamborine-Oxenford Road, Upper Coomera.  The march will assemble at the School of Arts Hall in Reserve Road at 8:30am and will commence at 9:15am.  The service will commence at the cenotaph at 9:45am and will be followed by a community BBQ at Siganto Park.

This Thursday, please remember the fallen and thank a digger.

Trooper David Pearce

AUSTRALIA'S TOUGHEST HOONING LAWS HAVE BEEN PASSED

Queensland will now see serial hoons’ vehicles sold or crushed sooner after the Newman Government passed the country’s toughest anti-hooning penalties in last night.

The new penalties will see people committing two serious hooning offences have their car confiscated indefinitely as part of changes to the Police Powers and Responsibilities (Motor Vehicle Impoundment) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2012.

Police Minister Jack Dempsey said Queenslanders were fed up with dangerous hooning on public roads and wanted the brakes put on the perpetrators.   “Hooning such as racing and driving recklessly in the suburbs is not only socially unacceptable, it is outright dangerous and places the lives of all road users at risk,” Mr Dempsey said.

The two strikes approach will apply to those committing Type 1 offences which include:

• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• Racing and speed trials on roads
• Wilfully starting a motor vehicle or driving a motor vehicle in a way that makes unnecessary noise or smoke
• Evade police

If you have a local hooning issue contact their local police station or the Hoon Hotline on 13HOON (13 4666).

While the hooning laws have now been passed through State Parliament, they won’t come into effect for six months to allow sufficient time for logistics to be finalised and community education about the new penalties as requested by the Legal Affairs and Community Safety Committee.
